Thanksgiving card ideas

Or take a handmade card to a hostess who’s worked so hard to stuff the turkey and mash the potatoes just to tell her how much you appreciate the effort.

I’ll show you some easy and fun card-making ideas for Thanksgiving cards that you can whip up in no time. And the best part is you don’t need anything beyond a few simple Thanksgiving sentiments to do it! By incorporating a rich, autumnal palette and taking a few cues from nature, your Thanksgiving cards will shine and spread the thankfulness of the season.

Bring the Outdoors In

Fall brings a bounty of riches. Try scouring your yard for these simple gifts from Mother Nature. Pick up a fallen leaf, or a twig, or a sprig of berries, and incorporate it into your design. The bonus? No coloring required! Keep the embellishments to a minimum and set off your natural element with a simple sentiment for a clean and bold look that lets the beauty of nature come through.

Go Modern

We all have background stamps in our stash, or stamps that aren’t occasion-specific. Pull them out! Depending on the colors you choose, you can dramatically change the look of a card. Here, I stamped a series of modern images in colors typically found on Thanksgiving cards: harvest yellow, honey gold, and terracotta. Pair it with a seasonal sentiment and you have an instant Thanksgiving card, not to mention one that’s oh-so unique and contemporary.

Do It Yourself

The classic Thanksgiving icon is a turkey, of course. But what happens when you don’t have any turkey stamps? No turkey stickers? No turkey chipboard pieces? How about making your own! Here, I die cut a scalloped flower in three different sizes and three different papers, then cut each in half. I punched a ½-inch circle and a 3/4-inch circle to make the body and drew on eyes and a beak. Almost any “thanks” sentiment would work next to this little guy, but on this card I added “Gobble, gobble” to keep it funny and cute.
