Well, “next year” is here, and this is your year to follow through! Here’s a simple scrapbooking idea that counts for November and December: a gratitude journal that doubles as a highlights-of-the-year scrapbook. Here are three time-saving tips to help you turn your ambition into a beautiful, meaningful mini-album that will fill you with holiday spirit. Don’t wait! Get started today!

Tip #1: Limit Your List

There are thousands of things to be grateful for, but if you try to cover them all in one album, you’ll probably get discouraged and give up (if not, more power to you!).

Since it’s November of 2011, why not limit your list to 11 things you’re grateful for? Not sure which items should make the cut? Try setting a timer for 1 minute and listing all of the people, places, objects, lessons, or ideals that come to mind; then choose 11 to focus on in your mini-album.

Tip #2: Focus on Specific Memories

It’s easy to list things you’re grateful for, but it’s more challenging to explain why. Instead of speaking in general terms, try focusing on specific memories.

For a person, share a cherished moment with that loved one. For a place, describe a powerful memory from that location. For an object, tell the story of its significance. For an ideal, focus on a personal experience or a lesson learned. Don’t try to say everything; just pick one experience that illustrates why that item made your list.

Tip #3: Explore the Ups and Downs

Even during difficult years, there are things to be grateful for.

Even during difficult years, there are things to be grateful for. Putting those things into an album can help you process your emotions and give you courage to press on.

As you narrow down the memories you want to include in your mini-album, ask yourself which cherished memories—happy and bittersweet—you wouldn’t trade away. Be sure to fit those into your album.

Use these tips to help you create a beautiful annual highlights scrapbook album!
