What is an eBook?

Quickie definitions, explanations & examples

The "e" in "eBook" stands for "electronic" and we also like to think it stands for "extraordinary." Ella Publishing Co. eBooks are professionally designed, educational books about scrapbooking and crafting, delivered in an electronic format. When you purchase an Ella eBook, you download a high-resolution .pdf (portable document format). A .pdf file can be opened by several standard preview programs or the free Adobe Reader software, which comes preinstalled on many computers but can also be downloaded for free at get.adobe.com/reader.

Extraordinary quality

When you buy an Ella eBook, you're getting the best. All Ella eBooks are written, edited, photographed, and designed by professionals. Through every step of the process, we've kept the reader (you) in mind. Every eBook is carefully crafted, tightly focused, and packed with useful information and helpful tips. Just download your first eBook, and you'll see how comfortable it is to read right on your computer screen (no scrolling necessary, easy navigation) and how easy it is to print at home. You'll be able to read the journaling and see the little page details that make each layout a work of art.

Eco friendly

While the color may not be prominently featured on our website, we're definitely a "green" company. No transportation costs, no clear-cut rainforests, no bleaching or printing byproducts sent to your drinking water supply. And if you read your Ella eBooks on your computer, you'll be a champion for the environment, too! Even if you do print your eBook, it's still a win for the environment. Unlike traditional publishers who typically print far more copies than they sell, resulting in overages and throw-aways, every Ella eBook is printed on demand and will be put to good use. (Right? Right.)

Easy to print at home

Ella eBooks are created in high resolution, meaning the images will look crisp and clear* when printed at home. At the same time, they're specially designed to conserve printer ink. You can print the whole eBook or just a few pages, collecting them in an inspiration folder or binder. The options are endless. Read our Printing Tips article for more information.

Fun to customize

Go ahead, alter that eBook! Once you've printed it, the options for what to do with it are truly endless. Bind your pages at the top, flip-book style. Bind them along the left side. Three-hole punch your eBooks (at the top or the side) and collect them in a binder. Have them spiral bound at a copy shop or do it at home. You can even bind your pages together using any do-it-yourself book-binding technique! Make it your own, and then send us a picture so we can admire your handiwork (email to comments@ellapublishing.com with "altered eBook" in the subject line). In the meantime, read our Alter Your eBooks article for a few ideas to get you started.
