It's Time for Digi Days!

Even the most dedicated paper scrappers (like me) have to admit that the times, they are a'changing... digital is not a passing fad! And instead of fighting the tide, I've decided to embrace change. I'm learning that digital scrapbooking and its sister, digital photo editing, can actually enhance my paper scrapbooking instead of replacing it. The more tools I have in my toolbox, the more options I have for capturing my family's stories.

In that spirit, we'd like to launch this week as Digi Days, an opportunity for all of us to embrace technology and learn some new skills. This won't be a one-time thing -- after all, digi is here to stay! One of our lovely Ella Friends, Barb Wong, has graciously agreed to start things off with a challenge this week.

Here's the deal: Create a digital or hybrid page. In the comments to this post, tell us where we can find your layout. If you post your layout on your blog, leave your blog address. Or post your layout to an online forum (a scrapbook gallery or Flickr or Facebook or...) and give us the link there. You'll have the chance to win a copy of Renee Pearson's new book, Special Effects for Digital Photos, AND a set of our brand-new Retro Digital Frames. If you're already a digital expert, try something new... a new action or product or whatever. Just stretch those wings!

While you're waiting for the winners to be announced we've got some other fun things:

  • Tuesday We'll post a round-up of Ella resources for digital photo editing and scrapbooking
  • Wednesday The Ella Friends will strut their stuff and show you their best digital/hybrid projects
  • Thursday FRIDAY (**CONTEST EXTENDED!!)We'll announce our winner, as well as showcase some of your pages and projects! (Winner will be chosen randomly. To enter, leave your link by Wednesday THURSDAY at 12 midnight Eastern)

Alright, friends... get scrapping!

In this layout (http://www.myscrapbookart.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=201198&ppuser=5054) I did three new things.

1.) I had my husband contribute to the journaling.
2.) I used papers and alphas only, not a single embellishment.
3.) I duplicated some of the major elements and reversed (and lightened) the drop shadow. This adds to the realism.

I am very new to Digital Scrapbooking and I'm loving digital templates. They make it very easy for a newbie like me to quickly complete a page. I completed this page (http://www.flickr.com/photos/tauzell/3963973591/) in about an hour about my middle daughter. And because it's digital, I can very easily switch out the photo, journaling, and even the paper and make it again for my other two daughters.

Here is my layout. In it, I used a new technique. I wrapped the text around an element. The After 5 Designs Blog had an excellent tutorial.

I love digital!!!! Here's my layout..............

I've just started digi-scrapping again after a loooong hiatus. I don't think I've scrapped a paper layout since going back to digi :) My layouts are posted on my blog: www.costenfamily.blogspot.com. My favourite digital tools are layered templates, I even make my own to re-use later!

My digital layout is here: http://www.myscrapbookart.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=201744&ppuser=2258

I learned to make scalloped edges, and used brushes as clipping masks.

I am a newbie to digital scrapbooking. In fact, this is my first digital layout that I felt like I knew what I was doing... although it did take me several hours. ;)

so happy to see Digi being featured here! I am all-digi these days but I was a paper scrapper for 20 years. Here's my layout http://www.flickr.com/photos/scrapbooklady/3963426055/ I used a template for this one and I would encourage the beginners to learn to use templates because they make it so much easier!

I've made several digital layouts over the past several days, one just tonight. The recent ones are on my blog, www.elysseandtommysmom.wordpress.com

I've switched to digital over the last two years. I still have a few paper layouts to finish but I find it difficult because I love digital so much now! I've given away just about all my paper stuff.

Ok, so I jumped in and did it! This is my first ever all digital page! I think it is ok, but I must say, I don't have a lot of digi supplies, so I did what I could.
Thanks for the push to try it, but I will probably stay with paper! There's just something about glue, and cutting things and touching them!

I just finished this page yesterday of my newest grand child (#9)... I used lots of fun digi tools to complete it. The design was a lift that I had made a digital template from. I love making templates from designs I find in magazines and books. I think this one was ether a Cathy Z or Ali E design.. I also used a new technique I found on smugmug.com to remove some of (not all to keep it real)the brighter stork marks on my sweet 4 hour old grand daughter, through adjustment layers.. What a fantastic techinique this was. Posted my page here

I'm not a digi newbie so I had to find something that I hadn't tried before. I tried a couple of new things on this hybrid page. Here you go: http://scraptherefore.blogspot.com/2009/09/something-little-different.html

Here is a Montage I have just done - a challenge but interesting! Click on the beach scene and it will go bigger. All the items I used are by Vinnie Pearce (I think)

Whoops, Sorry. Forgot to post the link!!

I don't often do full digi-pages, but I LOVE me some hybrid. It makes the whole process quicker and neater. Here's mine!
